philippines team update #6

Just this past saturday, there were nothing planned, so we just packed our stuff and prepare ourselves for what was coming ahead in Zamboanga!  We went to the local mall to pick up last minute computer parts in order for all of our laptops to be able to access the internet.  We met up with ben at the house we’re staying in, and took a cab to the airport together.  After an hour of flying, we’re at Zamboanga.  Despite of all the news about Zamboanga, it is actually a very peaceful place for the most part.  We see military personnel all the time since we are staying in a house of two missionaries near an air base.  It just so happens that the president of Philippines was also visiting Zamboanga the day we arrived!

On Sunday we went to one of the many local Chinese church for service.  The pastor preached in English and there was a translator.  When we told some of the members of the Chinese church why we’re here, they were somewhat shocked!  I guessed that they never expect “Joes” from the States would dare traveling to Davao City, then into Zamboanga after hearing the rumors of warfare and rebels in Zamboanga.

The sun doesn’t hit as hard as it does in Davao City, but the high level of humidity made up for the lack of heat.  Fortunately, there’s always a breeze to make the weather bearable.  The two missionaries who’s house we’re staying in are very friendly and hospitable, just like everyone else we’ve met in both Davao City and in Zamboanga!  The diet here is about the same as it is in Davao City, but people in Zamboanga tends to have more fish in their meals.

Please continue to pray for our team so that we’ll maintain team unity.  Also please pray for our health so that it will not be an issue that would hinder us from serving the Lord, and pray that the Lord will utilize us in His way.  Most important pray for the community we’ll be serving in so that they may experience God’s presence!
