Philippines Team: Update #5

Sorry for the delayed posting.

On friday, we didn’t have much orientation but we still had a lot going on.  Cheryl took us to Isla verde where we talked with some more familiar faces, at least for me.  I also worked with this group last year helping them setup a website for their livelihood of card making.

We spent most of our time in the afternoon working on the computers making sure all of them were working properly before leaving to Zamboanga on Saturday.  After realizing that some computer’s wireless cards were not capable of using WPA/WPA2, we needed to purchase some new ones (we ended up going to a store after dinner to pick them up)

But before that, we had our last orientation event for Davao City with Ate Edna who briefly gave us an overview of the language of Davao (history, context, etc…).

We got another chance to visit the kids at Osmeno park before we left Davao city.  This time for me, I was surprised at how open the kids were to me.  I barely entered the park (or where the homeless family were), and the kids ran up to me to welcome me -which was nice because I could feel that these kids really opening up to me even though I’ve only been there for a short time.

Tomorrow we will be packing up and getting ready to go to Zamboanga.

Prayer Request:

  • For safe trip to Zamboanga
  • Safety in Zamboanga
  • Acceptance of our presence in the communities
