Day 4

Time 8:00am Sunday -5:00pm Saturday (This applies to the last post as well).

I’m splitting up the highlights so it kind of flows better…. my blog goes from bottom to top.

  • Ben, Jeff, and I did a couple of errands (buying materials/tools for building, picking up some roofing material from someone’s house, and going to Ben’s house to pick up his tools) in the morning.
  • Had lunch with CheChe, Daniel, and Michael at PizzaHut; Jeff was really really happy when he looked at the menu – he never seen stuff crust pizzas with meat inside. We had bread with mushroom toppings and shared 3 family size pizzas (about the size of our medium pizzas): meat lovers (which Jeff ordered), vegetarian with stuff cheese crust  (Daniel), and BBQ ribs (Michael). It might not sound like a lot, but everyone was 100% full.. including Jeff =).
  • Went to Bucana youth center to build a raised stages for the youths to use on their talent show on Sunday (tonight), where they will be dancing on it. The challenge is to make a stage that is strong yet portable. To keep things simple and short, everyone that was helping (the 4 of us CBCSJers, Ben, and 2 local youth boys) pitched in their raw strength exhuasting ourselves trying to cut a lot of wood. Because the wood was moist from the high humidity in the Philippines, it makes it harder to cut because the wood just grips onto the blade making it hard to slide through. I’ll post videos later of the stage.Â

I just want to thank my dad right now for teaching me all the skills I learned in building. IT definitely helped the building project, and just as a spoiler, the stage is really sturdy and everyone feels confident that it will hold for the talent show.

  • The 4 of us went to Ben and CheChe’s house for dinner and to hang out. When we left, it was the first time it rained in Davao since Jeff and I came and it was pouring. I got soaked just walking to the jeepney (5 paces of walking in the rain). Ben and Cheryl said that this was average/light rain too =0.
  • Then the SO ladeis plus some wanted to give Ben a surprise at SPTC in celebration of his birthday on Friday. They sang songs to him, dumped water on him, and we all gave said one wish we had for Ben.
  • Everyone didn’t leave until 1:00am, and mind you all of us were workin111g hard at Bucana and we were already tired.

I guess you’ll have to wait later for day 5 and 6 because it’s church time for us!!!!
